When Should You Fire Your Realtor?
“I can’t trust my realtor anymore.”
“I don’t want to hurt his feelings by firing him.”
“I pray they follow through on what they said they’d do.”
OK, firing anyone isn’t fun. That’s why choosing the right realtor before signing anything is fundamental.
But let’s say you’ve already signed on. How do you know when it’s time to pull the plug and fire your realtor? Here are two major signs:
1. They don’t do what they say they’re going to do.
This is a character issue. When your realtor makes a promise—“Hi , I’ll send you the update tonight”—but then sends it days later with a lazy excuse like, “Hey, I was super busy… here it is though :)”… that destroys trust.
This kind of communication adds stress—not value. You should feel 100% confident your realtor is actually working for you and following through on what they said, every single time. Because if you can’t trust them to send a simple email… how can you trust them to negotiate the biggest asset you’ll probably ever own?
2. You’re constantly texting them, unsure what’s happening next.
If you’re always the one reaching out, wondering about next steps or updates, that’s a red flag.
Every one of my sellers gets a weekly update every Friday. They know exactly:
How many showings we had
The feedback from the buyers (good, bad, and honest)
Online view count, favourites, and how many property inquiries
How our marketing is performing
And exactly what’s happening next at every stage of the selling process.
This kind of transparency puts my clients at ease—because they’re not left guessing. They see the work in motion, not just me fiddling in the background.
These two points are key when vetting a realtor—don’t overlook them if you want someone who’s actually going to look out for you.
Want to see if I actually walk the talk and follow through on what I say?
I’ve got a outstanding track record helping clients buy and sell in all kinds of markets. If you want a clear, realistic game plan for today’s market, just reply to this email to book a no-pressure home sale consultation.
